Jaipur, the Pink City, is India’s first planned city, founded in 1727 by Maharaja Jai Singh II and designed by Vidyadhar Bhattacharya using Vastu Shastra principles. Now the capital of Rajasthan, it is part of the famous Golden Triangle with Delhi and Agra. Known for its pink-hued buildings, painted in 1876 to welcome the Prince of Wales, and its rich heritage, Jaipur stands against the stunning backdrop of forts like Nahargarh and Jaigarh.

Jaipur – The Pink City

Jaipur holds the distinction of being the first planned city of India, by Vidyadhar Bhattacharya.

Jaipur, the capital city of Rajasthan state, is renowned globally for its coloured gems. This bustling modern city is one of the three corners of Golden Triangle that includes Delhi, Agra and Jaipur.

In 1876, the Prince of Wales visited India. Since the pink colour was symbolic of hospitality, Jaipur Maharaja Ram Singh painted the entire city pink. The pink that colours the Jaipur city makes for a marvellous spectacle to behold. Jaipur rises up majestically against the backdrop of the forts Nahargarh, Jaigarh and Garh Ganesh Temple.

Jaipur traces back its origins to 1727, when it was established by Jai Singh II, the Raja of Amber. He shifted his capital from Amber to the new city because of the rapidly-growing population and an increasgin water scarcity in Amber. Noted architect Vidyadhar Bhattacharya used the established principles of Vastu Shastra to build the Pink City Jaipur.
