Agra Travel Guide

Agra – a glorious heritage city on the bank of river Yamuna, known as Agravan in the Epic Mahabharata. The famous 2nd century Geographer ‘Ptolemy’, marked it as Agra on the World map. It is generally accepted that Sultan Sikandar Lodhi, the Ruler of Delhi founded it in the year 1504 AD but the golden age of the city began with Mughal rulers after 1526 AD. It was than called as Akbarabad and remained the capital of the Mughal Empire under Emperor Akbar, Jahangir and Shah Jahan. Agra’s significance as a political centre ended with the transfer of the capital to Delhi by Emperor Shah Jahan.

    The Yamuna Expressway via Greater Noida offers the fastest and most comfortable route.
  • Jaipur to Agra – Approximately 240 km (4–5 hours)
    Via Bharatpur and Fatehpur Sikri.
  • Ranthambhore to Agra – Approximately 310 km (5–6 hours)
    Via Dausa and Bharatpur.
  • Gwalior to Agra – Approximately 120 km (2–3 hours)
    Via Morena.
  • Lucknow to Agra – Approximately 330 km (5–6 hours)
    Via the Agra–Lucknow Expressway.
