Humayun’s Tomb, commissioned by Empress Bega Begum in the 16th century, is
considered a precursor to the Taj Mahal and an outstanding example of Mughal garden-
tomb architecture. Its grand central dome, red sandstone walls, and intricate marble
detailing convey a sense of imperial elegance. The tomb is set within a formal Charbagh
garden, divided into four quadrants with water channels and pathways that create a sense
of order and tranquility. Visitors can explore the surrounding tombs of other Mughal royals
and nobles, gaining insight into the dynasty’s history, architectural innovation, and artistic
sophistication that shaped later monuments across northern India.
