Birla Mandir

The Laxminarayan Temple, widely known as Birla Mandir, is one of the most prominent Hindu temples in New Delhi. Built in 1939 by the industrialist Baldeo Das Birla and inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi, the temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu in his form as Lakshminarayan, along with Goddess Lakshmi. Designed in a modern style with traditional influences, the temple features bright colors, ornate carvings, and expansive courtyards, making it both a place of worship and an architectural landmark.

Set amidst landscaped gardens, Birla Mandir reflects a vision of inclusivity, as it was one of the first major temples in India open to people of all castes. Its peaceful surroundings and devotional atmosphere make it a popular stop for visitors and pilgrims alike. The temple complex also includes shrines dedicated to other deities, offering a broader glimpse into Hindu religious traditions while providing a calm retreat within the bustling capital.
