Boudhanath

Boudhanath, one of the seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kathmandu valley, stands as one of the most iconic and spiritually resonant monuments in Nepal, recognized for its massive white dome and golden spire adorned with the all‑seeing eyes of Buddha. Its origins trace back over a thousand years, and it became a major centre of Tibetan Buddhism after refugees settled around the stupa in the 1950s, fostering a vibrant community of monasteries, artisans, and pilgrims. Walkways around the stupa are lined with prayer wheels that devotees spin as they circle the structure clockwise, believing that each turn carries their prayers and mantras into the world. At dawn and dusk, the atmosphere grows especially poignant as monks chant, incense drifts through the air, and the fluttering prayer flags lend colour and movement to the scene. Surrounding the stupa are markets and cafés where visitors can observe local life, taste Tibetan cuisine, and linger in moments of quiet reflection amid one of the world’s great spiritual landscapes.
