Completed in 1648, the fort stands in Old Delhi, within the historic area of Shahjahanabad, close to the bustling markets of Chandni Chowk. Built from striking red sandstone, it was designed as both a formidable fortress and an opulent royal residence, enclosing palaces, audience halls, and gardens that reflect the artistic and administrative sophistication of the Mughal court. Key structures such as the Diwan-i-Aam and Diwan-i-Khas once served as important spaces for imperial gatherings and governance.

Over time, the Red Fort witnessed the decline of Mughal power and the transition to British rule, before emerging as a defining symbol of modern India. It was here that Jawaharlal Nehru delivered his historic address on 15 August 1947, marking India’s independence. Since then, the tradition continues every year on Independence Day (15 August), when the Prime Minister hoists the national flag at the fort. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it remains a powerful symbol of the country’s layered history, cultural richness, and enduring identity.

Timing: Sunrise to 09.00 PM

All Days Open

Entrance Fee: (updated April’ 2026)

INR 600 Per Person (Foreign Tourist)

INR 550 Per Person – ONLINE (Foreign Tourist)

INR 50 Per Person (Citizen of SAARC Countries)

INR 35 Per Person – ONLINE (Citizen of SAARC Countries)

INR 50 Per Person (Indian National)

Entry Free for children below 15 years of age (any nationality)

[66
61
post-7419","place","type-place","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","city-delhi","country-india
["GET
